What is your favorite vacation destination?

I haven’t traveled much, but I am not a sun and sand kind of guy. I want to see things: natural wonders, incredible views, and old churches and museums filled with art.

Who are a few of your favorite authors?

I like to read dystopian science fiction and fantasy novels. Authors such as William Gibson, Richard Morgan, N.K. Jemisin, Joe Abercrombe, and Christopher Hitchens appeal to me because of their writing and perspective on the world.

What is your favorite part of your job?

Learning new things. That aha moment during the process of discovery. Finding something that is badly broken and fixing it. The post mortem after a big breakdown where you discover all the moving parts of a failure and how they all contributed. I am fascinated by the way things break.

As a child, what did you want your adult profession to be?

As a child, I was absolutely certain I was going to be a musician when I grew up. Then a martial arts instructor. Then an electrical engineer. Then toward the end of my teens, I really wasn’t sure what I would be, but here I am, a systems engineer at Billtrust.

What is something interesting that everyone might not know about you?

I love sport fighting, specifically fencing and armored combat. I make sword hilts, armor, and jewelry in my converted garage. I love video games of all sorts. My favorite genre to read is cyberpunk: William Gibson, Bruce Sterling, Richard Morgan. My current favorite book is “Altered Carbon”.

I also want to share this video, where you can find me on the left side of the screen at the start, and the youngster explaining things is my son: Watch video

Thank you to Jonathan for sharing a few insights into what makes him well, him.
