Enterprise-grade MCP security
The Billtrust MCP Server extends the security controls customers already rely on to AI tools. Safeguards protect data privacy, control access, and provide complete visibility into system activity.
Multi-tenant architecture
Billtrust operates a hosted MCP Server. Connections are governed by the same isolated tenant architecture that protects Billtrust customers.
Your data stays yours
Your data isn’t shared with others. The MCP doesn’t disclose data related to other Billtrust customers.
Data privacy
AI providers never see raw customer data, so sensitive financial and personal information remains protected.
Controlled access
Read-only data access is provided via pre-defined, structured endpoints — not open database queries.
No AI model training
AI providers are contractually barred from using customer financial data to train their models.
Audit logs
Every query is logged with the user identity, tenant ID, and timestamp, providing a complete audit trail for security and compliance purposes.
The intelligence behind every answer
Every answer is powered by Insights360, Billtrust’s AR intelligence layer. It interprets the question, identifies all AR functions involved, retrieves live data, performs a cross-functional analysis, and assembles one response.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Billtrust MCP Server?
The Billtrust MCP Server connects your invoice-to-cash data to the AI tools your finance team already uses, like Microsoft Copilot and Anthropic’s Claude. Ask questions in plain language about AR performance, aging overdue invoices, DSO trends, invoice delivery status, payments status, and cash application exceptions. Get answers drawn from your live Billtrust data without leaving your AI workspace.
Which AI tools does the Billtrust MCP Server support today?
Microsoft Copilot and Claude are supported at launch. Additional AI tools will become available in the future.
Is our financial data secure when it goes through an AI tool?
Yes. Each MCP connection is governed by Billtrust’s isolated tenant architecture. The same architectural security protecting Billtrust’s customers today protects the MCP. AI providers receive structured responses, not raw financial data. Additionally, AI providers are contractually barred from using customer data to train their models. Every query is logged with user identity, tenant ID, and timestamp, making audits possible.
Can the AI tool take actions in the Billtrust platform, or is it read-only data?
Read-only at this stage. The MCP Server exposes structured access points. Nothing can be written, changed, or deleted through the connector. Write capabilities, however, are on the near-term feature development roadmap.
Does our IT team need to build or maintain anything?
No. Billtrust operates and maintains the MCP Server on the customer’s behalf. Once configured in the AI tool platform’s admin portal, everything is ready to go. There is no ongoing infrastructure to provision or maintain. If your organization uses Microsoft’s Entra ID (Azure AD) or Okta, the MCP can be connected through your existing identity provider.
What AR data can I access through the MCP Server today?
At launch, you can query Invoicing, Payments, Cash Application, and AR Analytics. This includes invoice delivery status and aging data, payment history and trends, cash application exceptions and match rates, DSO trends, and more. Additional data coverage is planned.
How does the Billtrust MCP Server differ from a standard data integration?
A standard integration moves data. The Billtrust MCP Server exposes Billtrust’s AR data. The Insights360 intelligence layer interprets the question, identifies all AR functions involved, retrieves live data, performs a cross-functional analysis, and assembles one response. For example, a CFO asking about cash position gets a synthesized answer across aging, payments, and exceptions in one response, not four separate reports to reconcile.
